The Bustang Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transit operations to ensure safe, efficient, and on-time service across all routes. This role serves as the central point of communication between drivers, maintenance teams, and operations staff, monitoring vehicle activity, and responding to service disruptions in real time. The Dispatcher plays a critical role in maintaining schedule adherence, supporting driver performance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Success in this position requires strong communication skills, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Although additional duties and related tasks may be assigned, the essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
- Monitor and coordinate daily Bustang operations to ensure on-time performance and service reliability across all routes.
- Dispatch drivers and vehicles in accordance with established schedules, service plans, and operational priorities.
- Maintain real-time communication with drivers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel via radio, phone, and digital dispatch systems.
- Respond promptly to service disruptions, delays, accidents, weather impacts, or emergencies by implementing contingency plans.
- Track vehicle locations using GPS and dispatch software to ensure adherence to routes and schedules.
- Provide accurate and timely information to drivers regarding route changes, detours, passenger issues, and safety concerns.
- Document all incidents, delays, and operational issues in dispatch logs and reporting systems.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to address vehicle issues and remove unsafe equipment from service when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and state/federal transportation guidelines.
- Support customer service efforts by relaying passenger concerns, service updates, and operational impacts to appropriate teams.
- Assist in shift handoffs by clearly communicating ongoing issues, service updates, and operational status.
- Maintain situational awareness of weather, traffic, and road conditions that may impact service delivery.
- Participate in emergency response procedures and support crisis management efforts when required.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability among drivers and staff.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in schedule adjustments and service planning to improve operational efficiency and on-time performance.
- Monitor driver hours of service and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Utilize dispatch and reporting systems to generate operational reports and performance metrics.
- Coordinate with external agencies (law enforcement, emergency responders, and local jurisdictions) when necessary.
- Provide backup support for call center or customer communication functions during high-volume periods.
- Ensure proper documentation and follow-up for customer complaints, service interruptions, and safety concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive operational and personnel information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in dispatching, transportation operations, logistics, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dispatch systems, GPS tracking, and two-way radio communication.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, especially in time-sensitive situations.
- Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or dispatch management software.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must pass background check and meet all applicable state and company requirements.

PAY AND BENEFITS
- Starting pay rate: $23.00 – $26.00 per hour
- $2,000 sign-on bonus for full-time employees
- Overtime eligible – time and a half over 40 hours

- Health Insurance (Eligibility the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment)
- Medical – Great rate at only $59 per pay period for single coverage (eligible 1st of the month after 30 day of employment)
